Improvements to the Children’s Play Area – Phase Two

Over recent years, the Sandringham Estate has undergone a series of improvement works to offer better facilities for visitors, and to maintain the surrounding landscape and environment for the future. A key part of this work has been the introduction of a new Children’s Play Area, inspired by landmarks in the local area, and improvements to the Courtyard area and Royal Parkland.

Following a positive response to these improved areas, in 2022, the Estate will continue these long-planned improvement works to expand the Children's Play Area, and introduce additional car parking to meet demand.

The design of new structures for the expanded Children’s Play Area takes further inspiration from features around the Estate. A new tower based on the ruins of ‘St Mary the Virgin Church' at Appleton will be introduced, as well as additional high-level walkways, landscaping and new seating areas. Planting will also continue around the Visitor Car Parks.

This investment in the Royal Parkland is possible due to income generated on the Estate, and will contribute to the long-term sustainability of Sandringham.

The Estate aims to minimise any disruption for visitors to the Royal Parkland as the improvement works continue. Nature trails and walking routes through the Royal Parkland will remain open as usual.

From 5 January 2022, please be advised that whilst the majority of the Children’s Play Area will remain open, areas including the Toddler Play, higher level walkways and the middle play area will be closed off whilst particular works are in progress. Please also be aware that other areas may need to close at short notice, as the work progresses.

We look forwarding to welcoming visitors to the new and improved Children’s Play Area very soon!
