Forestry and Conservation

A mixture of Hardwood and Softwood trees

Sandringham Forestry is responsible for the stewardship and management of the woodlands and individual trees across the entire Estate. Our woodlands are managed under the UK Woodland Assurance Standard, FSC® certified and audited annually to ensure we are operating to the highest industry standards.

Comprising of nearly 1,335 acres, our woodlands sequester approximately 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent a year. All of the woodland at Sandringham provides a valuable wildlife habitat, which encourages a diverse range of species and woodland structure.

Conservation

The Estate Woodlands includes softwood and hardwood, ancient semi-natural or ancient replanted woodlands. Trees and several miles of hedges are planted each year many of which can be seen from public rights of way that cross through the Estate.

Many memorial and commemorative trees can also be found across visitor areas such as in the arboretum on the Estate.

A proportion of the timber felled on the Estate is processed through the Sandringham Sawmill for fencing rails, posts and firewood, as well as being wood chip to service biomass boilers.
